Sony Releases Another Mysterious Playstation Teaser Ad: The Arrival

Back on Thursday, we showed you a brief Playstation teaser video that Sony released with little explanation. The short ad -- which spanned only 15 seconds -- showed a woman at a desk with some PlayStation-themed items around her. At the end of the ad, someone walks in, electrical noises rage, and the woman looks up, seemingly disappointed. This new ad, seen below, is similar in length, and similar in vagueness, too. Like in the original video, called The Reload, this video -- called The Arrival -- has some interesting and tantalizing PlayStation-centric clues in it. The woman from the previous video is seen at her desk typing on a typewriter, but the typewriter's keys are all strange symbols. The symbols have been identified by IGN reader StargamerX, who claims they're the alphabet from Ratchet & Clank. Thus, the letter she's typing reads: Dear Copernicus we have received your letter and regret to inform you captain... Copernicus L. Quark is a character in the Ratchet & Clank series; the letter appears to be addressed to him. The next major clue is the jeep that pulls up, which is almost certainly alluding to the Uncharted series (what with its very Uncharted-like explosive barrel in the back). The license plate on the back of the truck represents another Naughty Dog series -- Jak & Daxter -- and, in the language of that series, says "Morgan", a reference to Naughty Dog's co-founder's old dog (thanks to StargamerX once again for the translation). Better yet, the silhouette of the driver (and his reflection in the window) in the next few frames almost certainly shows Nathan Drake from Uncharted. Otherwise, much of the setting -- including the woman, her desk and some of her surroundings, like the Ape Escape reference -- remain the same as in the previous video from Thursday. The date at the end of both videos -- October 23 -- had us thinking that this may have something to do with the Playstation Store update. But that date is only for North america, and the Stateside rollout has since been delayed. Other speculation from the first ad included the possible announcement of Infamous 3. But taken together with this ad, everything now seems to be pointing to Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. All of the videos' references -- Ape Escape, Uncharted, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, et cetera -- are included in the game.
